Corsa Rosa della Coesione, Stage 8: Tortoreto Lido – Pesaro

18/05/2019

Stage 8 of the Giro d’Italia starts in Tortoreto Lido, on the Abruzzo coast in the province of Teramo, and takes us along the Adriatic to Pesaro, in the Marche region.

For Corsa Rosa della Coesione, a project of environmental protection planned by the Region of Abruzzo taking advantage of funding from the Development and Cohesion Fund for the current programming cycle (2014-2020) has been selected. Currently under way, the project concerns the construction of a water purification plant in Tortoreto Lido and Giulianova Nord. It is one of the projects involved in implementation of the Development Pact for the Region of Abruzzo and is making use of half of the programmed funding for the pact earmarked for water purification in this part of the Abruzzo region.

A special project has been selected for the stage finish: a project for the creation of a section of bike path in the city of Pesaro.

Using €326 million of the Development and Cohesion Fund (for the Marche Regional Implementation Programme) budgeted for 2010 (source: OpenCUP), the bike route from Pesaro, the birthplace of the great Italian composer Gioachino Rossini, towards I Gelsi to the south was built between November 2011 and June 2012.

Just one week since the start of the Giro d’Italia and of the Corsa Rosa della Coesione, over the course of these first eight stages we have told you about 21 projects with a total cost of nearly €23 million.
