Data Card - World Environment Day & Biodiversity in cohesion policies

05/06/2020

World Environment Day was proclaimed in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly, on the occasion of the establishment of the United Nations Environment Program. Since 1974 it has been celebrated every year on June 5th. World Environment Day 2020 is dedicated to the theme of biodiversity, "the infrastructure that supports life on Earth and the development of the human being".

On the occasion of WED 2020, OpenCoesione publishes a Data Card dedicated to the interventions of cohesion policies to protect and enhance biodiversity in Italy.

As part of the Partnership Agreement between Italy and the European Commission for the 2014-2020 programming period, interventions for the protection of nature and biodiversity (through the conservation of habitats and ecological networks and the promotion of natural attractions) commit funds for about 300 million euros. The Development and Cohesion Fund (DCF), which is the main national fund for the economic and social rebalancing of the country, has also activated interventions relating to the Nature area, where actions are planned for a total amount of about 277 million of Euro.

The Data Card provides an insight on six projects that promote biodiversity, implemented in Calabria, Umbria, Sardinia, Tuscany and in the framework of the Italy-France maritime cross-border cooperation programme.
