Update of data as of 31st December 2023

21/02/2024

Online on OpenCoesione the bimonthly update with the data relating to the implementation of the European and national cohesion policy as of 31 December 2023.

Of the almost 2 million projects observed as of the end of 2023, for a monitored public cost of EUR 272.1 billion, about 1 million refer to the 2014-2020 programming cycle. Among these, there are a total of 855,031 interventions financed by the European Structural Funds, for a monitored public cost of EUR 81.5 billion and payments of EUR 51.0 billion.

For the 2014-2020 Structural Funds projects, the date of 31 December 2023 is, among other things, the deadline, as defined by EU regulations, by which the owner administrations must make payments on individual projects. Of these, 82% of the projects (amounting to approximately EUR 28 billion of public cost) are associated with completed or liquidated projects in the national monitoring system.

The data as at 31 December will in any case see a progressive adjustment with the updates that will be published in the next two months, also taking into account the closure rules for the Structural Funds of the 2014-2020 cycle and the usual settling of the data typical of the final phase of each EU programming cycle.
