The theme comprises the construction of systems for energy generation from renewable sources, the promotion of energy savings by citizens, enterprises and the Public Administration (including schools). In addition are included the actions for the deployment of district heating and cooling and the development of distributed cogeneration (electricity and heating) and trigeneration (electricity, heating and cooling).

Energy consumption from renewable sources

The consumption of electricity from renewable sources (including hydroelectric) increased in Italy from 16.0% in 2000 to 30.7% in 2022. In the South it reached 45.4% in 2022, a value higher than the national average, starting from a 4.6% observed in 2000.

Energy consumption for public lighting

In ten years, the consumption of electricity for public lighting compared to the area of inhabited cent res has decreased in Italy from 30.6 GWh/km2 in 2011 to 24.4 GWh/km2 in 2022.
In the South, the value increased from 39.7 in 2011 to 30.9 GWh/km2 in 2022.

Since 2007 up to today, the value of projects monitored and supported by cohesion policies in the field of Energy has exceeded 6 billion euros, out of which approximately 3 billion concern projects financed in the 2014-2020 programming period.
