ASOC Stories: the eco-hostel of Locri and the "Young people on the way" Team

The fifth ASOC Story is online. This format collects stories related to the impacts of civic monitoring actions over time. A few steps from the Ionian seafront of Locri (RC) is located the Locride eco-hostel - an asset confiscated from the 'Ndrangheta in 2005. It was renovated by the Municipality of Locri thanks to funds from the National Operational Programme Security allocated in the 2007-2013 programming period. The "Young people on the way" project, of the overall budget of around 2 million euros, was monitored in the 2014-2015 school year by the students of the Zeleuco scientific high school in Locri, who chose the same project name to be the name of their Team.

Professor Enza Agrillo recalls: "The students of the 'Young people on the way' team immediately felt familiar with the theme of a property confiscated from the mafia and its final destination as a facility that would host young people, it was an immediate choice".

Today the confiscated property has been transformed into a modern accommodation facility with 15 triple rooms equipped with air conditioning and a private bathroom. After long preparations, the facility is now promoted by the Tour Operator for the responsible tourism "I Viaggi del Goel". The Locride eco-hostel also welcomes high schools from the center-north and groups willing to "learn" the law in Calabria, starting from the positive experiences of the area.
