Kohesio is born: the open data platform with over 1.5 million projects funded in Europe by Cohesion Policy
On 17th March, on the occasion of the opening of the 8th Cohesion Forum, the European Commission presented and published the "Kohesio" platform that gathers the information about more than 1.5 million projects financed by the European cohesion policy in the 27 Member States.
The projects are financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Cohesion Fund (CF) and the European Social Fund (ESF), implemented with resources from the 2014-2020 programming period.
Kohesio will be available soon in all languages of the European Union: the creation of the platform required close cooperation with national portals that publish open data on ongoing projects and with National and Regional Managing Authorities. As for Italy, the projects published are almost 740 thousand: OpenCoesione is the data source of Kohesio, representing therefore an important experience in reusing the data published on the portal www.opencoesione.gov.it, as detailed in the new section of the portal page dedicated to the Re-use and participation.
On Kohesio it is possible to navigate and carry out thematic research in relation to:
-
standardized data relating to specific projects (over 1.5 million), including links to the respective Programmes and Funds;
-
standardized data regarding the projects’ beneficiaries (approximately 500,000) and the project progress;
-
data on more than 300 Operational Programmes (OPs) in all 27 Member States;
-
interactive map enabling users to retrieve data geographically.
Presenting the project, Elisa Ferreira, Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, said: "Kohesio offers a comprehensive set of information like never before to find out how Cohesion Policy contributes to strengthening our Union. Thanks to Kohesio - cohesion policy becomes even more open and transparent. With just a few clicks, anyone can find out exactly how the EU is investing in our regions and cities to promote economic, social and territorial convergence and cohesion. This new tool complements the Cohesion Report, published last month, and the Cohesion Data platform. Projects funded by cohesion policy will be completely transparent".
